2D: Sketchbook 6 Identity

Computers: Tank Man (Tankmon)

While the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 have become an iconic event to the world; to China it is a forbidden topic of its history. A million people had gathered there to protest and anywhere between a couple hundred to 2,600 people were reported to have died, but today the Chinese only know about the event through family, hearsay, and foreign media. The incident is also censored from any education curriculum. It is almost impossible to find information about it besides government regulated books, magazines, and websites. The Chinese government’s censorship strongly covers the Internet and news media so that results searching for related topics come up blank. The censorship of Tiananmen Square is an example of various forms of censorship, such as educational, popular culture, and internet censorship.
